MOBO to reward the North West’s unsung heroes

// July 14th, 2010 // No Comments » // Uncategorized

Following the recent announcement that Liverpool is the host city for the 15th annual MOBO Awards this October, MOBO is calling for entries for this year’s BeMOBO Award.

BeMOBO was established five years ago and previous winners include War Child Charity, Ricky McCalla, From Boyhood to Manhood Foundation and Anti Slavery UK.

As an organisation regarded as being a bastion for achievement and for breaking down barriers, MOBO created the BeMOBO Award to deepen engagement across communities, beyond the parameters of music. The prestigious BeMOBO is granted to an organisation or individual that has gone beyond the call of duty, shown outstanding courage, and/or made a major difference to local, national or international communities.
The annual BeMOBO Award acknowledges the hard work and special contribution made by an individual or organisation that orchestrates significant changes via grass roots, educational or community programs.
This year the BeMOBO is focussing on the North West* of England, allowing for a greater spotlight to be shone on this area of the UK. The individual or organisation does not need to live in the North West to submit an application, however the efforts of the individual or organisation must primarily impact the North West.

Nominations for the BeMOBO Award can be submitted directly to MOBO via the entry page on the website at www.mobo.com. The submissions will be narrowed down to a shortlist of three as judged by MOBO founder Kanya King MBE and a number of high profile local judges. This panel will include representatives from Liverpool City Council, the Liverpool Echo, BBC North West, Radio City and a MOBO advocate. The winner of the 2010 BeMOBO award will be selected from this shortlist by a public vote.

Kanya King said, “As we celebrate our 15th birthday in Liverpool, a vibrant city recognised for its outstanding contribution to music, culture and creativity, we are looking forward to the BeMOBO Award showcasing our commitment to the local community. It’s the first time the Award has been run as a regional initiative and we’re already starting to see some very exciting entries come through.”

Nominations for the BeMOBO Award are now being accepted at www.mobo.com. The closing date for nominations is 23:59 on Sunday 1 August 2010.
